Good day, Cyberspace! It is yet another Tuesday! Another bright, shiny, turquoise day that we can all share together. Let’s just take a moment to breathe it all in, shall we?
…
Okay, enough breathing. Let’s get on with the Smudge.
You know, I feel like every single week I tell you guys, “Strap on your seatbelts, fella’s, we’re doin’ something different today!” (Actually I have never told you this, but let’s just roll with it, okay?)
So this week it was supposed to be different. Or shall I say, the same. I was going to write a nice, boringly normal Smudge about NaNoWriMo or whatnot, and make a long, extensive list full of things you should or shouldn’t do.
Typical.
HOWEVER, that idea will not be coming to fruition today. Or probably next week. (Although I am planning a NaNoWriMo survival kit, which I shall probably not share with you sometime soon. [unless that sounds boring. Does that sound boring?]) Anyway, the reasoning behind this is that I actually got a suggestion through my suggestion desk!!! HUZZAH!!
(And if you, too, would like to send a suggestion my way, like how I should really just shut up with the stupidly long introductions and just get on with the post, you can do so through the Suggestion Desk over in the sidebar.)
Now, I was super excited to see someone took the time and effort to send me a suggestion, and there’s just no way I could ever pass up the opportunity of actually responding with a post. So, person who sent me a message (I am not sure whether you want me giving your user name thingy out on here, so I’m being totally vague, BUT YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE), thank you! I really appreciate the feedback!
As for their suggestion, you can probably guess that from the title.
Character Interviews.
This is something that I have never done before. Ever. And honestly, I’m pretty sure I’m going to butcher this ENTIRE thing. BUT! Since it was a suggestion–and a good one at that–I thought, “Eh. Why not.”
And thus, here I sit, typing the longest intro ever to what is probably going to be a rather strange post to write, and probably a stranger one to read.
So without further ado, I give you–
The First Ever Smudged Thoughts Review (ft. Adaline Potts)
First thing’s first, if you don’t know anything at all about Adaline, or my NaNo project in general, then I suggest you head on over to my Introducing Ever Lost Post. It’ll give you all the extremely vague juicy details on my book, which I seriously know nothing about can’t wait to write.
Alright, I’m just going to leap right into this… Here we go…
Me (duh): Good morning, Adaline. How are you doing today?
Adaline: Wonderful, thank you.
Me: That’s fantastic. I’ve actually got some questions I’d like to ask you, if that’s all right.
(This is honestly the strangest thing I’ve ever written.)
Adaline: Okay…
Me: Alright. First question: what is your favorite color?
Adaline: Oh! Most definitely red, for my sister, Rose.
Me: You have a sister?
Adaline: Of course. She’s sitting right next to me. She’s quite shy, though, so she only talks when there’s no one around.
Me: I…don’t see anyone.
Adaline: *face clouds over* No one ever does.
Me: …
Me: Right. Next question. What is your worst fear?
Adaline: *wringing her hands* My worst fear?
Me: Yes, that is the question.
Adaline: I guess…I guess it would be the shadows.
Me: The shadows?
Adaline: They move.
Me: …
Me: …
Me: Uh-huh. What would you say your strangest quality is?
Adaline: Hmm… I think it would be my dreams. The others say I’m crazy, but I know they’re real. There’s this blue-haired boy, you see–
Me: *cuts in quickly* Alright, let’s just keep that to ourselves, shall we? *laughs nervously* Moving on… How long have you been in the–ahem–building?
Adaline: Building?
Me: *whispers incoherently*
Adaline: Oh! You mean the–
Me: Yes, yes, that. How long have you been there?
Adaline: Eleven years this October.
Me: That’s quite a chunk of time.
Adaline: I’ve been there ever since I was a little girl. Right after my seventh birthday party. It was quite the celebration, you know. Well, until I grabbed the knife, and–
Me: Okay, then! Next question! What is your favorite animal?
Adaline: Oh! The butterflies! The others can’t see them, but the butterflies are trying to tell us something. They’re quite beautiful, too… So shiny…
Me: Uh…right. One more question: If you could re-do one thing in your life, what would it be?
Adaline: *eyes become unfocused, as if drifting into another realm* The party.
Me: I see. Thank you so much for being here today, Adaline. It was a pleasure getting to talk to you.
Adaline: Thank you for letting me out long enough to be here.
Me: …
Me: (I think I should have interviewed a different character…)
Another huge thank you to the one who sent me a suggestion! (I still don’t know whether I should say your name or not, but YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!)
You should definitely do more character interviews! (I’m Kit, by the way.) This post has made me curious about Adaline. Particularly her seventh birthday party, her sister, the shadows, the Building, her dreams… you get the idea. :P She sounds like a really interesting character, especially her backstory.

Aww, thank you so much, Kit!! (Here is your cookie!!!) I’m so glad you like this post! That’s a huge relief off my shoulders, haha! And yeah! Adaline’s backstory is almost as interesting, if not more, than her current role in the story. (I say current because I’m trying to plot the book out now, which is turning into an epic fail…)
Anyway! Thank you so much for the comment, and I’m SO glad you liked this post!!!

*eats cookie* Mmm, delicious!
I’m trying to plot my current WIP right now, too, and it’s also somewhat… problematic. But we can do this! (I mean, we have to what with November coming around…in A WEEK. AHH!!)
You’re welcome–and like I said, I hope you do more character interviews!
