Didja Miss Me?

Good afternoon, Cyberspace!

Okay, so I realize that I technically came back from Hiatus earlier than expected, but since that was basically just a rant post about NaNoWriMo that I sort of regret posting?? let us just pretend for the rest of our feeble existence that this most glorious rant never existed.

Deal?

Deal.

Allow us to begin again, shall we?

Good morning, Cyberspace!

Oh goodness. It has been way too long since I have typed those blessed words! Way too long indeed.

But alas! I–the Smudgiest Thought–am back! Forever and ever and ever.

Amen.

And as much as I’ve enjoyed my Hiatus, as much as I’ve relished the feeling of not having to worry about writing a post every week and making sure it had a featured image (bahahahahahahahaha I never do this what am I talking about) so that it looked pretty and trying and failing miserably to be one of those famous blogger-people who everyone fawns over…I’ve really missed you guys.

And also my bloggy headquarters and my secret stash of cookies, because cookies.

But anyway–it feels good to be back, Cyberspace. Extremely good.

And also terrifying because I haven’t written an actual blog post in precisely 3,000 years.

But I’ve been considering many possibilities for my second first post back from Hiatus for a while now, and while I was initially going to do a nice WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO-type thing, I realized that this is slightly boring.

And when I say slightly, I mean extremely because I’ve literally done nothing. And to prove just how much nothing I’ve done, I’ve decided to make a smol list for all you beans out there who are screaming at me that you’d love to hear what I’ve been up to, after all.

all three of you

You’re welcome.

— What I’ve Been Doing —

A Depressing Tale by Kenzie Keene

  • binge-watching the entire fourth season of Sherlock in one day
  • reading absolutely nothing
  • except for Sherlock Holmes. I read one Sherlock Holmes’ book and one short story because #SHERLOCKISLIFE
  • binge-watching ALL OF THE STUDIO C because someone (who shalt remain unnamed [KATE. KATE. KATE. KATE.]) got me addicted
  • writing???
  • failing at Camp NaNoWriMo
  • miraculously winning Camp NaNoWriMo despite all odds…?
  • learning the basics of driving so I can get a license (and also hopefully not murder someone in the process????)
  • painting the most adorable bookshelf with my amazingly talented mom
  • decorating aforementioned bookshelf with ALL OF MY BOOOOOOOOOKS!!!!
  • discovering that I have a passion for hats
  • helping out with my church’s VBS and falling in love with all of the children because they are SOO CUUUUTE! (and even being remembered by some of them from last year!!!! [have I ever mentioned I love kids??]
  • writing a blog post for Camp NaNoWriMo
  • crying over aforementioned blog post
  • skinning my right palm by playing badminton (I did a dramatic fall and somehow completely mutilated my hand with my toenails. don’t even ask)
  • making an Instagram account
  • realizing I absolutely loathe Instagram
  • rewriting the first 13 chapters of everlost (I’m actually pretty proud of this progress [even though some of the chapters I got done BEFORE hiatus, but whatever. no one cares about the details])
  • binge-watching more Studio C because it is literally the best YouTube channel on the planet
  • eating cookies. obviously.
  • the end.

And that’s where I’ve been, folks! As you can see, I’ve had a very productive Hiatus. I finished absolutely no crafts, did nothing readerly or writerly, and instead filled my head with a bunch of TV and potatoes.

Suffice to say, this past month has been glorious.

But of course I couldn’t stay away from my precious blog forever. There must come a point in every lazy mortal’s life when they realize that they need to return to what they love.

And in my case that is writing and ranting at the world through this blog.

So here I am! I have returned to you all with a smile and a mutilated right palm, and I am officially ready to continue my blogging adventure! And since I’m still getting into the swing of things after such a long Hiatus, please forgive me for the fact that this is more of an extremely boring update post telling you I’m officially back than a Ten Reasons Why I Loathe Word Limits With All The Fiery Passions of Mordor smudge.

someone please murder me with a pitchfork now because I’m so bored writing this

Although you can most certainly look out for that in the near future, because that just so happens to be on the line-up of future posts.

“But Kenzie!” you might be asking with questioning brows. “What else is on the agenda for future blog posts? Surely you have a plan now that you’re back from Hiatus?”

Well, my dear bean, it would seem as though you always ask the most perfect questions for smoothly integrating a shift in these Smudges.

and also your brows are frightening me

However, if you would truly like to know, here is a smol list of some future blog posts you can be watching out for in the not-so near future–

The Smudged Thoughts Agenda For Future Blog Posts*

*subject to extreme change

  • Character Interviews from the lovely cast of everlost
  • More Writing Tips and Tricks by Yours Truly
  • The first ever PictoPrompter PLUS! (coming soon)
  • Bookish posts (reviews, tags, rants, etc.)
  • hopefully something crafty???
  • How to Survive and Conquer the Editing Process (without losing all of your hair)
  • Updates on everlost (featuring a gorgeous pic of my new bald head)
  • A super secret something that I’ve been cooking up in the back of my head (that I’m not sure I’ll actually carry out or not…)

And that’s my agenda! Sounds fun, right? I’m really excited to begin writing some of these. I’ve really missed being a part of the blogosphere, and I am just so thrilled to be back home. Blogging has officially weedled its way into my life forever and always. There is no way I can give up on it now, no matter how hard I try.

Kind of like a YouTube addiction.

So though this smudge has been extremely boring and quite lame and has made me want to tear my bloody left eyeball out just by writing it, you can bet your burritos that next week will have the usual fun and flare that we’re all used to.

Hopefully.

Until Next Tuesday–

*flings cookies in the air and disappears*

Well, that’s it for today, folks! Have you all missed me? Are you excited for me to be back on the blogosphere? Will you help me set fire and burn this post to the ground because it’s honestly the most boring thing I’ve ever written? (I really despise writing update posts, guys) What have you been doing whilst I’ve been away doing complete randomness? Did you win Camp NaNoWriMo? Let us talk about ALL OF THE THINGS down in the comments below!!!

  1. Yaaayyy you’re back!!! I missed your posts. (And cookie flinging)

Congrats on finishing Camp Nano! I didn’t even try to participate, (oops) but I did start outlining a new story, which is going well. Mostly. *coughs*

I’m excited to see some more posts on everlost! I’m super intrigued.

I’m glad you had a good hiatus! (Minus the mutilated palm, of course) Hope you’re having a great day! – Abi

    • I am SO happy to be back!!!! And yessss! There shall be plenty of cookie flinging in the future!!!

Aww, thank you! I’m actually quite shocked I won. I had to edit 11 pages on the final day, but by golly, I did it, haha! XD Outlining a new story is FANTASTIC! To be honest, I think this was my last time doing July Camp, so I wouldn’t feel too bad about not participating!! I’m very interested in this new story!!!

Eek! I’m excited, too! I love raving about my smol child…

Actually, the mutilated palm was quite fun to show off. Especially to my dad, because it grossed him out… XD I had a marvelous Hiatus!! Thank you so much! And same to you! I hope your day is fantastic!!!

    • Eeek! Thank you! I’m so happy to be back!!!

And oh my word, is “ALL OF THEM!!!” an option??? I think some of my favorites are the ones featuring Ann Withers, because if I EVER get a job at the library, that SHALL BE ME!!! I also love the Mike Tyson’s Punchout one, Blame the Butler, the one with the detective where Matt’s in a wheelchair and he keeps owning up to completely irrelevant crimes he’s committed…

Oh goodness, I love them all!!!!

  2. CONGRATS ON BEING BACK!! I ATE ALL THE COOKIES WHILE YOU WERE GONE HAHAH. Ahem. I mean, there might be crumbs left IDK. *sprinkles crumbs in your hair*

Also the upcoming posts look fab!! I can’t wait to read them. And CONGRATS on winning Camp NaNo! I squeezed in and whacked out a (bad😭😂) 1st draft in the last four days! It’s bad but I still LOVE IT <3 *squishes small mangled manuscript* and I'm actually looking forward to editing which is…amazingly bizarre.😂

    • YOU ATE ALL MY COOKIES???? Ah, that’s okay! I like smol crumbs, as well. *flaps happily beneath the cookie crumble rain*

Aw, thank you! I’m really excited for them! OH MY WORD, THOUGH! I had completely forgotten you had written a post about how to edit without setting all your hair on fire, and I am SO sorry about how similar my future post sounded! I didn’t mean to copy at all!!! D:

And thank you! I’m actually quite shocked I won… Oh my word! You are the Mystical Cait! Absolutely no one can compare to your writing genius! NO ONE! Was this the third in The Boy Who Steals (Stole?) Houses series, because I am SO EXCITED for that series, you have no idea… Editing IS fun if you know what you’re doing! (Which I don’t…so…) XD

    • Awww, thank you so much! It is a miracle I won, to be honest… XD And I loved sharing a cabin with you, too! I’m SO glad you offered to switch for me! I was quite lonely until then, and if it weren’t for that cabin, I can honestly say I probably would not have won… XD

I am, too! I’m ready to get back to blogging!!!! WHOO!

      • Aww, if you hadn’t had your name the same on the Virtual Write-in I wouldn’t have recognized you to even think of offering!!! :P The change really helped me too, though. I probably wouldn’t have gotten that great advice for how to end my story then!! :)
Oh, that’s good you’re happy to keep blogging!!! Sometimes, it can be easy to just think of how hard it is to blog rather than the benefits you get from it! :)

        • I’m so glad you recognized me! It actually made my day, haha!

Yes!!! The cabin is really amazing! Especially if you get awesome cabinmates such as the ones we have!! XD And yeah, blogging is one of my favorite hobbies, so I’m excited to be back! But it IS hard… I’m not gonna lie!!! XD Oh well! It’s worth it!!!

  3. *scrabbles to the ground and grabs as many cookies as humanly possible* 5 second rule, right?

Welcome back! And congrats on NaNo!!! I failed miserably:( Last month was all about outlining, reviewing each of my characters, sending a couple off to therapy, and writing up a synopsis that is surprisingly helping me as I’m writing a new draft. So, I didn’t completely leave my WIP alone:)

Looking forward to future posts and glad you’re back! :D

    • Of COURSE! There’s actually a ten-second rule around here, hahaha! XD

Aww, thank you so much! Oh, trust me, I’m actually quite astonished that I even got as much as I did done. And oh my word! It doesn’t sound like you failed at all! Just because you didn’t finish a NaNo goal doesn’t mean you didn’t win in other aspects! (And it sounds like you did a LOT with your manuscript, so you deserve ALL OF THE COOKIES, my friend!!) Also, sending couples to therapy is literally the best! I applaud thee!!!

Awww, thank you!!!! I’m so glad to be back too!!! :D

    • YAASSSSSSSSS!!!!! Kate has given me a mass weapon that I shall use upon the entire human race!!! And that weapon is STUDIO C!!!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Ooh! Brownies!! *glances around nervously because I haven’t written anything towards my book all day*

        • I KNOW!!! They are a little cut off in places, but I created the design myself in Paint, haha! I didn’t even have a mouse, so I feel very proud of those cartoony cookies!!! They make me squeal with delight, actually… XD

          Liked by 1 person

          • They are adorable! And they’re well-drawn, especially without a mouse. I like the mini cookies with only three chocolate chips, they look like gasping faces. “GASP? Why did you throw me at someone’s face?!”

I think I need to make chocolate chip cookies very soon from now…

            • Hahahahahaha!!! That is what I thought, too!!! I was wondering if that’s what it really looked like, or if maybe it was just me!! 😂😂😂 AND OH MY WORD, YESSSS! That is exactly what they’re thinking!!!

I used a lot of the circle maker thingy-ma-jig, actually. It wasn’t HARD, per se, but it did take a lot of time. (Probably because of no mouse??) Ooh! Sammmee!!!

    • Oh dear, it most definitely was… And I watched the whole thing in a day. Suffice to say I cannot wait (and am hoping and praying they actually make) season five!!!

I am so glad to be back, as well!!!

  4. Aw, you mentioned meeeee!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA DARN RIGHT I GOT YOU HOOKED!!!

That Badminton Fall sounds epic. Wish we coulda seen it.

Also I’m glad that most of the cookies falling from the sky are SMILING but that one dude up at the top looks SAD??? He needs help, Kenz.

YOU WATCHED ALL OF SEASON 4 IN ONE DAY??? How did you even have time???

I didn’t know you were obsessed with hats????

AND OHMYWORD I NEED THAT CAST INTERVIEW RIGHT. NOW. PLEASE AND THANKYOU.

    goodbye.

    • And I am STILL hooked!!! I need to be writing my book, but my mind is just like, “STUDIO C STUDIO C STUDIO C STUDIO C…”

Yes. It was quite glorious. I am ashamed it was not caught on camera… The bloody mess was quite delightful, as well, though!

Oh, yes… He is a sad little cookie. Not every cookie can have a happy face all the time!!! XD Poor cookie… I don’t believe he likes being flung…

I MADE TIME, JIM. I MADE TIME.

I know, right? I didn’t either! But I love hats, apparently??? It is quite the peculiar obsession… XD

Haha, SAAAME! I’m excited, because first up is Thao, and THAOOOOOOOO!!!!!

    • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I AM SO GLAD YOU LOVE MY UPDATE POST. 😂😂😂 But actually, YESSSSS! We shall definitely be having some of those coming up! Hopefully… I have some ideas for the PictoPrompter plus, but I need to get cracking on the actual prize thingy…. 😂 And YES TO THE INTERVIEWS! I’ve got an Adaline/Thao interview that was voted in MONTHS ago, so that should be coming up soon, too!

As for Camp NaNo, I’ve actually decided not to do it this month due to some reasons (I’ll probably be writing a smudge about it soon), but I’m definitely rooting for all the writers who are participating!! Are you doing Camp this month?
