Let’s Talk About Life, Yeah?

good morning, Cyberspace,

and welcome back to yet another episode of Kenzie Waits Until Monday To Write Her Weekly Blog Post! WOOT WOOT!

You’d think that after nearly two years of blogging I’d figure out that there are actually seven days of a typical week, and therefore I could potentially utilize some of those days for blogging. But no. Nope, I prefer waiting until the very last minute, because apparently I’m still holding out hope that Armageddon is nigh and the world will spontaneously implode before Tuesday morning.

So here I am again, trying to figure out what to write for tomorrow’s post, and all I can think about is the fact that I should really be working on my novel. Because I love my novel. And I want to be a full-time novelist, not a full-time blogger, (although admittedly that would be kinda fun? if only I didn’t have a thousand and one story ideas bubbling in my brain…) which means that, in order to achieve that ultimate goal, I actually need to work on my novel.

*brain implodes*

I know, right? WHO WOULDA THUNK.

But alas, it is true. And so in order to chunk out some time for me to spend in the world of everlost today (yesterday? I’m writing this on Monday, so….?), I’m going to be doing a simple post this week. A happy little post. A post about life.

Or rather, a post about MY life. Because my life is totally cool and hip and not at all boring.

#lies

So even though I loathe writing update posts (pretty sure we’ve been over this about ten times already…) there are some Things that have happened/will happen that I kind of want to talk to you guys about. So.

Here we go again.

Let’s Talk About Life, Yeah?

Thing One. . .Blogging

This particular Thing is kind of what sparked the idea for today’s smudge. Blogging. I love blogging. I am never going to quit blogging. I have made so many friends through blogging, and when asked what one of my absolute favorite ideas has been over the course of my smol existence, I will look you straight in the face holes and say, “BLOGGING.”

However, with that being said, Smudged Thoughts is going to be celebrating its two year anniversary* in August, which means that A) there shall hopefully be a giveaway, maybe???, and B) I’m beginning to grow restless. Not with blogging, of course, but with the look of my blog. And also with some of the content.

Aha.

Let me explain.

Design. . . I love the happy cookies. They are my favorite. I shall keep the cookies on Smudged Thoughts forever. However, I kind of want to change the theme template of my blog. I’m not exactly sure which one I’m going to choose yet (or if I’m even going to change it), but I’d really like to give this blog a bit of a revamp — add a color scheme, some new designs, possibly a chibi caricature created by Yours Truly of me and Durachi and my pitchfork. . . You know. The things that’ll really make this blog POP. (consequentially, this sort of ties in with one of my blogging resolutions for this year? so A++ work there, Kenzie.)

Content. . . I’m sure we can all agree that Smudged Thoughts is a writing blog. Writing is my life, so therefore it only makes sense that all I ever talk about is, of course, writing. This shall never change. But alongside all the writing posts and tags and random things, I really want to start including some new features, as well. Such as the Villain School 101 series! I know I’ve only posted one of these so far, but I really enjoyed it, and am definitely going to be doing more of these in the future. Villain School, Hero School, Sidekick School. . .the possibilities are endless here, guys. Now I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t know everything there is to know about the writing craft –and in most cases, I probably know less than your average writer — but after really submerging myself in my writing over the past few years, I feel like I have discovered a few highly regurgitated tips and tricks that I could share with Cyberspace.

But the Villain School isn’t the only thing I want to start doing more of. The whole reason I started a blog is because I wanted a platform where I could share pieces of my writing, such as short stories and whatnot. (of course, I then discovered the totally not-popular thing known as Wattpad, but whatever. I know what I’m doing, here.) But even after I created this blog, I never actually did that. I guess it’s because after I wrote Gretel, I never really had a good short story idea that made me want to drop everything and write it. But now (thanks to some friends who shall go unnamed [y’all know who you are.]), I got an idea. A brilliant idea. A glorious idea. An idea so scrumptious and filled with death that you will have no choice but to gobble it up.

I call it. . .The Little Bookshop of Whimsy.

And here is the blurb!

There were six of us. We don’t know how we got here. We don’t remember anything from before. None of us remember. . .except for Carl.

Carl knew things. He said we were brought here. He said we were chosen. He said things were about to happen. Bad things. But none of us knew what he was talking about. None of us listened. And now it’s too late. We can’t ask him what to do. We can’t ask him why he never let us touch the books. We can’t ask him anything.

Because now Carl’s dead.

jimmy neutron GIF
unfortunately The Little Bookshop of Whimsy is NOT a Jimmy Neutron fanfiction. sorry to disappoint.

This blurb is, of course, still under development, but you get the basic idea. I haven’t begun outlining The Little Bookshop of Whimsy quite yet, but I’m hoping to get the first chapter up in August. (i’m still working full-time on EV, which means that for right now, all other story ideas, short and long, are on hold.) I’m super excited about this, though, because it’s been FOREVER since I’ve actually written a short story, and I’m confident that if I keep to a monthly posting schedule, I’ll be able to whip out both this short and a new novel at the same time. Hopefully.

Especially since both projects have the same sort of feel to them. (if i end up going with the Goblin King, that is…. aha. #help)

(*And I know that this is a very smol age for a blog, buT STILL. THIS IS AN ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR ME, PEASANTS)

Thing Two. . .Writing

This kind of ties in with what I mentioned earlier about working full-time on everlost, but. . .I’m still working on everlost.

Haha. Yeah.

See, back when I actually finished the second draft, I did something really stupid. I sent it off to my betas without even reading through it in its entirety.

Now, this might not seem like the dumbest thing I could have done, but IT WAS STILL SEVERELY DUMB, OKAY?? My alpha (hi, mom! *waves*) is finding SOOOOOOOOOO many flaws with this book. AND DON’T GET ME WRONG!!! I love the fact that she’s found issues with it! This is a very, very good thing! This means that I can improve the story. This means that I have goals and standards and that when I’m done, this book is going to be so much better than it was initially. But if I had simply read through the book before sending it, some of the typos and glaring flaws could have been eradicated before she started reading.

But alas. I did not do this.

And, because I am a complete and utter nincompoop, I sort of did something even more stupid after she started giving me feedback.

I began fixing it. Immediately. And that, my friends, was literally the absolute worst thing I could ever have done.

To all you peeps out there planning on giving your stories out to betas, I 10/10 do NOT recommend doing what I’m doing. At all. Hold on to your sanity. Let the betas read the book in peace. Let them give you ALL OF THE CRITIQUES. And then — once you’ve gained about thirty years and are much wiser than I — then you can go back in and edit. It is going to be so much less painful than what I’m doing, I swear.

So yes. I’m still working on everlost, and in all honesty, I’m really okay with this. I love this story. I don’t want it to be just good; I want it to be the absolute best book it can possibly be. And the critiques I’m getting are helping me build towards that. This whole beta thing, while it is a GIANT learning curve for me (i’m still trying to figure out how to send chapters out on time??? aha. #failing), is severely helpful to the editing process. I can already see vast improvements in the core of the story — improvements that I would never have been able to pinpoint on my own.

But even though my primary focus is still on everlost for the time being, I’m still letting some new story ideas boil in the back of my mind. I’ve got two full-length novels in particular that are vying for my attention right now, and while I know that I probably won’t get to either of them for quite a while, I’m not sure which one I should work on first when that time comes.

The first is a story that is oddly close to my heart. It’s about creepy drawings and a lonely artist and a bird and an alternate universe and disturbing creatures of the mind.

The second is less personal, but still super fun, because it’s about (SPOILERS) and (SPOILERS) and SUPERHEROES. And who doesn’t like a good superheros story, am I right???

But as to which one of these I should write next. . .? I be clueless.

Also I won Camp NaNoWriMo! Which is great. Except I forgot to validate my hour count by the end of April 30th, which meant I had to send a desperate plea of help to the official NaNoWriMo people, so that was embarrassing.

BUT STILL I WON NANOWRIMO!!! WOOOOOOT! Next time I’m going to use the month of March to actually prepare for the month of insane writing, instead of having two insane months of writing in a row. . .

Thing Three. . .Reading

I pretty much wrote literally nothing all of last week. Why? I have no idea. I think I just kind of had a brain crash and needed a week of inhaling creative content in order to continue producing it. Which means that I read.

A lot.

Well, I tried to read a lot. I really did. But in all honesty, I only completed one book. But HOLY GUACAMOLE that was a good book. And it was called —

Entwined

. . .Entwined by Heather Dixon. . .

I’m not going to write a full-fledged review for it here, because this is just supposed to be a bit of an update post on what I’m working on and why I haven’t exactly been the best at blogging over the past couple weeks, but this book definitely deserved a mention.

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately. What with working on everlost pretty much nonstop (excluding last week, of course), and eating all of the cookies in between, I haven’t had much time for reading. And what little time I have put towards reading has been less than satisfactory. Books just haven’t been holding my attention lately.

But this book. . . This book was different.

I had no clue when starting out that this was a fairytale retelling, (i didn’t know there was even such a thing as The Twelve Dancing Princesses???), but even before I discovered this little nugget of happiness, I was completely hooked. This book was twisty and slightly creepy and beautiful and enchanting, and the characters!!! ASDFGHJKL THE CHARACTERS!! I absolutely loved Bramble. She is me. I am Bramble. I need a name change because I AM LITERALLY THE BRAMBLE, GUYS.

And also I loved Lord Teddie. Because he reminds me of Lord McDougal from The Peleg Chronicles. (who just so happens to be one of my ultimate favorite characters of all time. no biggie.)

But anyway. If you haven’t read this book yet. . .read it. Read it right now. You will not be disappointed, I promise.

(unless, you know. . .you don’t like fairytale retellings? and fun characters who make you laugh? and dancing??? and if that is the case, wow, how did you even find my blog, sir?)

Some other books I started, but didn’t finish due to #reasons were. . .

Squashed

. . .Squashed by Joan Bauer. . .

I’m not sure why I didn’t finish this one. It’s a relatively short book, and I’m sure I could probably finish it in one day if I tried, but the writing felt a little. . .off to me? I don’t know. I loved the premise of it, though, so I might go back and try to finish it before my library loan ends?

. . .and. . .

When Dimple Met Rishi

. . .When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. . .

This was actually a super cute book in the beginning!!! I fell in love with the characters and the plot immediately and was super excited to keep reading, but then some “things” happen later on and uhm. . .yeah. I probably won’t go back and finish this one. You know. Just because.

*awkward laughter*

. . .

Buuuuuut anyway. Secondly on my Readerly News — I WON AN ARC FOR A BOOK?????

I am so excited guys!!!! I’ve never won an arc before. I’ve never had an arc before. This is the first and probably also the last because I am a lame cucumber but ASDFGHJKL I WON AN ARC!!!! And not only does the story itself sound absolutely AMAZING, but the cover of this book is pure enchantment. LOOK AT THIS COVER, PEASANTS. LOOK AT IT.

Crowning Heaven

My jaw literally dropped the first time I saw this, guys. I’m not even joking. I am SO beyond excited to read this, and also SO beyond grateful to the author for the arc!!! ACK!!!! (THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, EMILY!!!!!)

Crowning Heaven actually comes out tomorrow, so you can probably guess what I’m going to be binge-ing tonight instead of sleeping. AHA.

(and also there will be a full review for this story once I finish it, so keep your eyes peeled for that! [like literally peeled. get a grape peeler and peel those eyeballs, guys.] I’m so excited to devour this book, you have no idea…)

And That’s Basically It. . .

That’s pretty much it for the major highlights of what’s been going on/what’s about to happen here on Smudged Thoughts, but, as always, I do have some honorable mentions that deserve a few fractured beams of spotlight. . .

  • I’m currently learning how to drive in the city, and have officially received two birds and one mugshot by some crazy driver lady who thought I turned too slow at an intersection
  • I’m absolutely loving the warmer weather and am quite possibly a sunflower because I keep pointing my face directly at the sun and am therefore now blind
  • I’m playing the violin again! #fun And also I want to finish learning Roundtable Rival by Lindsey Stirling by August. Because that would be nice. . .
  • I knit my mom a Jack Skellington for Mother’s Day and it actually looks like Voldemort. . .?
  • WE PLANTED A TREE!!!! His name is Norman Bruce and he is a Norway Spruce and also the cutest tree in the whole entire world (but I don’t have any pictures yet because I’m actually an armless cucumber)
  • Also we have this outdoor cat named Turtle and she recently had kittens and THEY ARE THE CUTEST LITTLE FLUFFS OF EVER ASDFGHJKL! (one is named Bilbo. there is a reason for this, but I feel like it would take too long to explain, so you shall just have to be content knowing we named a kitten Bilbo.)

And that’s pretty much everything! Or rather, that’s all I can think of right off the bat, so that’s what we’re gonna be rolling with.

And also I’m tired of writing this update post. So.

I’m such a great blogger, wow.

talk to me, peasants!

And that’s all I’ve got for today, folks! Once again, this is sort of a random, spontaneous kind of post, but there were some things I wanted to shoot by you before making any strange changes to Smudged Thoughts, so. . .? I think we can call this a success!

*insert awkward silence*

But anyway, let’s get to the questions, shall we? (yes. yes, we shall.)

What have you been up to for the past couple weeks? Have you written anything awesome? What’s the best book you’ve read so far this year? Do you enjoy fairytale retellings? Are you excited for some possible renovations to Smudged Thoughts, or does the idea of change send you curdling up into the fetal position in a lonely corner whilst sucking on your thumb? What book do you think I should work on next? Make sure to vote for Superheroes or The Goblin King down in the comments below! And also let’s talk about ALL OF THE THINGS. Because that’s pretty fun, too. XD

As always, until next time. . .

*flings cookies in the air and disappears*

So long as you keep the cookies while renovating the blog, I think all will be well. xD

    I vote Goblin King.

I will take heed of your beta reading lessons. Somehow I must finish a draft. :\

  2. I’m just sitting here in pleasant surprise that you’ve only recently been acquainted with the Twelve Dancing Princesses fairy tale. It is a lesser-known one, but I’ve read a few adaptations (not this one) so I didn’t realize just /how/ lesser-known it is. (Do you know about the Snow Queen? East of the Sun, West of the Moon?)
Where did you get an ARC? How??
I’m working backward…. And I’m so thankful you and the rest of the gang have undertaken beta readers first so I know what /not/ to do, lol. I’m taking copious notes.
Best book this year…? Top of my head, the Illuminae Files. But there have been several good ones. (And several I promptly returned to the library after reading less than 5 chapters.)

    Like

    • I know, right?? I’ve never even heard of this one until this book!!! I am a shame to the fairytale community. But I loved it SOOOO much…! (what were the adaptations you’ve read, if you don’t mind my asking??? *whips out pen and pencil eagerly*) I HAVE heard of the Snow Queen, I believe!!! That’s the one Disney modeled Frozen after, right? I’ve never read it, though… I should probably get on that. XD East of the Sun, West of the Moon I have never heard of, BUT OH MY GOODNESS IT SOUNDS AMAZING??? Are there any adaptations you would recommend??? Or any fairytale adaptations in general you would recommend???
I actually entered a rafflecopter on the author’s blog for it!!! I had no idea I would ever win, but IT WAS SO COOL ASDFGHJKL!!! I’m currently reading it, and I really like the book so far!!!

LOL!!! I know, right?? I really wish I would have planned through this more?? But I didn’t. So I at least know what NOT to do next time. Aha. *distant sobbing*

I am definitely going to have to add the Illuminae Files to my TBR… UGH, I KNOW. I have had many of those moments this year. It’s really hard being a reader when you don’t like A) bad language, B) inappropriate scenes, and C) basically all of the things that people put in their books nowadays. XD Good thing we can write our own books, right??? XD

      Like

      • “Modeled” used in the loosest of terms, but yes, “Frozen” is (not really at all) based off of “The Snow Queen”. And actually I believe “The Snow Queen”, written by H.C. Andersen, is in turn something of an adaption of “East of the Sun, West of the Moon”, which is an older folk tale. I certainly have trouble differentiating between the two.

Jessica Day George did retellings of both “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” (“Princess of the Midnight Ball”, with Cinderella and Red Riding Hood making appearances in the sequels) and of “The Snow Queen/East of the Sun, West of the Moon” (“Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow”). Both of these fairytales being less-popular, I haven’t come across them in more than a couple of different books.

I read a fair number of retellings if you ever want a list! I’ve actually read more retellings than the originals, just because the originals can be so…twisted. (Sleeping Beauty, anyone?!)

Oooooh…. That’s how you do that. You have to network with people if you want things….

Oh, I don’t even talk about my TBR. It’s so big (thanks a lot, Goodreads) and there are so many sad, forsaken stories buried in its depths. Sigh. Illuminae and the sequels do “have” language, but it’s like TV Guardian bleep-ing every word out. Which is somehow hilarious. I don’t recall any inappropriate scenes…. Well, Ella, who shows up in the second book, has a very mature sense of humor…. But I still love her.

        Good thing indeed!

        Liked by 1 person

        • Ah, okay yeah. XD I think I just assumed it because Frozen has a Snow Queen. Aha. I am so smart. XD OOOOOOOOH!! I really want to read East of The Sun, West of The Moon now… Do you have any ideas where I can find it??

OH MY GOODNESS WAIT YOU HAVE ALREADY ANSWERED!!! XD Well, it’s a retelling, but that’s even better in my opinion. XD I must add these to my TBR IMMEDIATELY. I currently have a giant buildup of books I want to read, cause I haven’t really been able to read much of ANYTHING the past week (UGH @ LIFE) but I need to make sure to find these…. Thank you so much for these, Phoebe!!!

ASDFGHJKL I WOULD LOVE A LIST!!! Retellings are literally my FAVORITE!! (Oh. I know. Sleeping Beauty appears to be a favorite to retell. XD)

LOL! I wouldn’t say network. I just read her blog, so when I saw that post and the rafflecopter I button-smashed my Kindle to enter. XD I never actually expected to win, though. I rarely ever win anything. XD

UGH I KNOW, RIGHT???? My TBR is filled with books that I’m not even sure I want to read anymore??? It’s kind of turning into a blackhole, to be honest. XD Oh my word, that does sound funny! XD I once read a book (a Peter Pan retelling) and Tink was a feisty little thing who used some ‘language’, but she had designed this gadget to turn all her swear words into really strong “tink” ing and bell sounds. XD

(Thank you again for the snow queen/east of the sun, west of the moon and 12 dancing princesses retellings! I’m gonna look those up today!!!!)

          Liked by 1 person

          • Ummm…. I know Andrew Lang’s “Blue Fairy Book” includes “East of the” etc…. I actually can’t remember if I’ve read the original. I’ve read some version of “The Snow Queen”, but I think it was for free online.

You’re very welcome! I love Jessica Day George’s writing! Comparable authors would be Shannon Hale (retold “The Goose Girl” fairytale and did so splendidly) and of course Gail Carson Levine (“Ella Enchanted”, admittedly for younger readers but still good). Robin McKinley is a personal favorite who did “Sleeping Beauty” (“Spindle’s End”) and one or two “Beauty and the Beast” retellings I forget the titles of. Elizabeth C. Bunce retold “Rumpelstiltskin” with “A Curse as Dark as Gold”. I’ve yet to find a good Rapunzel retelling…. I’ve heard good things of Juliet Marillier’s “Daughter of the Forest” but haven’t read it yet. And of course you have the Lunar Chronicles.

Catherynne M. Valente’s Fairyland books aren’t strictly retellings, but they pull elements from mythologies from around the world and they are brilliant. Also not-a-fairytale-but-feels-like-it is “The Girl Who Drank the Moon” by Kelly Barnhill.

In a different vein, if you want something a little more mature (very occasionally I do), I would say check out the newer series by Katherine Arden which starts with “The Bear and the Nightingale”. Not strictly fairytale, but it reads like one. Then there’s Stephen R. Lawhead’s Pendragon Cycle (I’ve only read the first three) which are based on Arthurian legend but pull in elements of the Atlantis myth. Also, I believe he’s a Christian author.

I feel like I’m missing someone, but I should probably stop….

That Peter Pan retelling is perfect and Tink with a mouth on her sounds on-point.

            Like

            • OH. MY. GOODNESS. Phoebe, I CANNOT thank you enough for this list!! I literally just flipped open Goodreads and added every single one of these titles to my to-read shelf, and I am so excited to get started reading these. Seriously. THANK YOU. <333 I've actually already read Ella Enchanted (it is one of my absolute favorites!! I read it like five billion times just a few years ago. XD) And also The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland! (I loved the artwork for that one, but the story was a bit slow for me until chapter 11ish… I haven't finished the series yet… Have you read all of them??)

Oh man, I am so excited to read these… Especially the Rumplestiltskin one! I have never read a book about Rumplestiltskin… That'll probably be the first one I go for. XD Seriously, Phoebe, thank you SO much!!! You're like a fairytale retelling master!!! 😂

              • *gasps* *shrieks* *gasps again* YOU’VE READ THE GIRL WHO CIRCUMNAVIGATED FAIRYLAND IN A SHIP OF HER OWN MAKING?!?!?!?!!!!! I’ve never met another reader! *swoons*
Ahem. But it’s like one of my favorite books. I own all of the books and have read them all multiple times. My favorite is the third. So much good. Buuuut I know they aren’t for everyone.

I figured you’d read “Ella Enchanted”. How about Gail Carson Levine’s “Fairest”?

“A Curse as Dark as Gold” was unexpected. It’s still based on historical England with the setting, but more like 1800’s England, not medieval. It feels more mature than most retellings and it’s a quiet sort of book. But good.

*bows* I try. I try. And I live for the moments when people ask “Do you know of any books…?”

                • *gasps along with you* I HAVE!!!!! Wait…you’ve never met another person who’s read that book??? But it’s really good? I mean, yes the beginning was rather slow, but I definitely wouldn’t have that stop me from finishing the series someday… AWWWWW!!! I must definitely read this entire series, then!!! Some of the characters were just so adorable!!!

Um….I don’t think I’ve read that one. I have read An Unfortunate Fairytale series by Chanda Hahn, and THAT has a book titled “Fairest” in the series! XD #fail But I’ll definitely look into that one, too… (i actually think I saw some of Gail Carson Levine’s books during a recent trip to Barnes and Noble, so I’ll definitely have to look those up on Goodreads…)

OOOOOH. That still sounds so good!!! I’m absolutely reading that. XD

Haha! XD You are magnificent, my friend! I honestly come up with blanks every time people ask me for recs, so I’m usually the person ASKING for the recommendations… I shall definitely be coming to you again in the future for more! XD (once I can finally see over the top of my TBR pile, of course… XD )

I’ll be linking to you (hope that’s okay).

It’s definitely okay if you link to me! I wasn’t the original idea-person for this, though (as I said, Cait’s the one who inspired me, and I’m not sure if she started it or got it from someone else???), but IT WAS TOO MUCH FUN NOT TO TRY IT, SO….? XD

  5. It’s cool that you found a good book! I’ve also been going through a reading slump lately, but I just blasted through this one book called Vesper. I forget who the author is, but I got it like over a year ago and I just haven’t read it until now. I was really surprised though because I thought it was about some random girl who gets magical powers, but then it turned out she was a werewolf. I was not expecting it, which was kind of cool, because usually you can predict those kinds of things. Short stories? Exciting!!! Can’t wait until you get Everlost published so I can read it :) Also, I forgot to ask. Did you ever make it so that Thao’s fish died? Or is that a secret? :) (Also, don’t apologize for your update posts, you make them interesting :) )

    • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!! That book sounds AMAZING!!!! *jots down title* I must read it. . . I kind of have this weird infatuation with werewolves, so this is a MUST for my TBR pile… You know, there are quite a few stories where random people get superpowers, so I’m actually quite pleased with this mysterious author for throwing a curveball. She (or he?) deserves some cookies! XD
I KNOOOOOOW!! SAME!!! I am so excited for this one. I’ve only done like two-ish full short stories, so to be planning on another to share with y’all is just really exciting for me… XD HA! I can’t wait till Everlost gets published, either. But I think that’s going to be a LOOOONG ways away. But hopefully someday! I’m moving along at a steady clip for this spontaneous rewrite I’m doing, and I’m hoping to have it finished either by the end of today, or tomorrow, which means that it will be done on Friday. XD OH! The fish!!! Okay, so he’s technically not in the draft as of yet, because I could never really find a place to put him in, but I’m hoping that either A) he can make it into book two and die, or B) he can make it into the bloopers, or C) he’ll make it into the third draft. I’m not sure where he’s going to be, though… XD I REALLY WANT HIM IN THIS STORY. (oh my word, Kirsten, you honestly have no idea how much that means to me… THANK YOU. *hugs*)

  6. As a fellow blogger, I totally relate to the smol hope that the world will end before you have to write the hey-it’s-now-past-schedule post…

And Entwined is SO COOL and I’m so happy you read it! (but how have you not heard of the twelve dancing princesses??) (tho to be fair, I haven’t found many retellings, which is sad!)

“The Little Bookshop of Whimsy” sounds awesome [and Kenzie-like… “because he’s dead…] and I can’t wait to read more about it!!

    • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA — ISN’T IT THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD??? *inwardly dies* I literally do it every single week. I say I’m going to backlog my posts, and then. . .NOPE. Never happens.

OH GOODNESS, I KNOW, RIGHT??? It was one of the coolest books I’ve read all year. Which I’m not sure is really saying anything, because I haven’t READ very much this year, but whatever. XD (ugh, I know! I am a literal cucumber. but I would love to read more retellings of them! I absolutely love the whole ‘sisterly love’ kind of thing. I haven’t read many books with solid family structure like that?)

EEEP!!! Thank you so much!!!! I am SO excited to write it… I just need to finish up this crazy massive rewrite for everlost, and then I am washing my hands of this novel while I let my betas finally read it. I cannot wait for that to happen… XD (Kenzie-like is DEFINITELY what I was going for. XD Dead people are the best people! [oh my word, what is wrong with me… XD]) ME TOO!!! But seriously, though. I have no idea how this story is even going to end. XD

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS COMMENT, JEM!!!!! *hugs*

    • WASN’T IT, THOUGH??? It was seriously one of the best books I’ve read so far this year.

EEP I KNOW!!! I really hope I’m able to actually nail it down soon. I’ve been working on it bit by bit for almost a year…. Aha. 😂😂😂

    • Oh my goodness, hi! I’m so happy you’ve found my smol little blog here! Here are some complimentary cookies for you and your face. *flings cookies at your face* (also I am so sorry this comment is so late. I’ve been trying to get back on track of things, and while I’m doing well in some areas, responding to blog comments has fallen a bit by the wayside. aha.)

OOOH. This question is always a little hard for me, but I shall do my best to give some good advice. XD First off — CONGRATULATIONS ON STARTING A BLOG!!!! That is SO cool!! And as for advice, I think my number one piece of blogging advice is to just be yourself. I know that sounds really cheesy and PROOOOBABLY doesn’t help you a whole lot, but still. If you’re new to blogging, it can be REALLY hard to find your “voice”. There are so many blogging voices out there (sarcastic, witty, funny, straightforward, educational), and it can be extremely hard not to get caught up in that and try to mimic the voice of your favorite bloggers, but I promise you that if you just be yourself and write how you would normally write or talk, then you are going to have SO much more fun. I often find that my absolute favorite blogs aren’t the ones with the most amazing graphics or the thousands of followers, but the ones who’s post content and voice really reflect who the writer genuinely is.

This kind of goes right along with the first bit, but something that I’ve been trying to teach myself — and something that I really want other bloggers to hopefully realize as well — is that blogging isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being real and genuine and true to who you are. So don’t worry about whether your posts are perfect or hit a certain word count. Write what you want to write, and if you love it, post it. That’s all there really is to blogging. XD

So yeah! I hope that helped maybe???? I feel like I really need to write a blog post on this…
