“It’s flat!” you say. // A Poem

good morning, cyberspace!

Apparently the moment you tell the world that poetry just “isn’t your thing” is the moment a poem decides to stick itself into your noggin in the middle of the night whilst you’re trying to sleep.

#funtimes

Today’s post was actually supposed to be a StoryTime With Kenzie! kind of deal, but unfortunately for me, my immune system decided to fail me yet again by giving me the second cold I’ve had this cold and flu season! Yippee!

^^ me trying to escape my reality

yes i’m bitter.

As you can probably guess, this means that literally all my blogging and bookish plans for the final stretch of January were tossed completely out the window, along with about three million snotty tissues and all my faith in humanity.

But–thankfully–I am now starting to feel better, which means that with any luck, I’ll be back to my usual blogging schedule shortly. But as for this week, you guys get to read a really weird poem that lodged itself into my brain in the middle of the night on Saturday and kept me from sleeping.

because I literally have no other ideas, peasants, don’t judge me.

Ahem. I mean, because I’m super creative and wrote a poem that I would like to share. Obviously.

Aha. Hahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Let’s get to the poem.

“It’s flat!” you say.

a poem by Mackenzie Keene

“It’s flat!” you say. “The earth is flat!”

Good sir, it cannot be!

The earth is round,

the proof is sound.

On this you must trust me.

“It’s flat!” you cry. “I swear it’s flat! I saw it with my eyes!”

Now, please, my friend,

this has to end.

Do stop these awful lies.

The earth’s a face—it must be round.

I’m fairly sure of that.

But tell me, sir, when last you’ve seen

a round face that was flat?

The earth is flat! At this I’ll scoff.

You must have hit your head.

For if the earth was as you say,

We’d fall right off the edg—

TALK TO ME, PEASANTS!

That’s it, folks. That’s the show.

I’m really sorry for such a smol post today, but I think we can all agree that, with all the giant posts I’m usually flinging at your faces, this is a very refreshing breather, amiright? (also this is literally all I could come up with under such short notice, so I mean? it’s better than nothing?? maybe??) Now that I’m beginning to get back into my normal routine, though, I’m planning on getting some blog posts written up and scheduled for future use. I was doing really well with backlogging before this, so I’m determined to get back on track now. XD

But anyway, now that you’ve read the poem, let’s hear your thoughts! What did you think of my strange little poem? Have you ever had a poem lodge itself into your head while you’re trying to sleep? (this is a first for me. it was weird.) What kinds of poems are your favorite? Really deep and inspirational, super light and fluffy? Weird with a hint of humor? and most importantly. . .

DO YOU THINK THE WORLD IS FLAT OR ROUND???

As always, let’s talk about ALL OF THE THINGS! down in the comments below, my friends!

Until next time. . .

  1. Kenzie this is the most adorable poem. It’s so silly and rhymey and Lewis-Carroll-y!!! (that ending though XD)

But seriously, just write poems whenever you feel like them? Who cares if they are rare, they are GOOD (like Not Today? that was forever ago, cause yeah I’ve been stalking your blog forever ahahah… but I still remember how amazing it was). And I have totally had a poem invade my head and REFUSE TO LEAVE until I write it. It’s annoying. But also it…produces a poem? Can’t be too upset. But like your poems are fantastic. So yeah, get out of bed and write them! Art > comfort.

As for the earth, idk, but Narnia is flat??? Let’s all go to Narnia.

    • Oh my goodness, thank you SO much, Sarah!!! <333 Being compared to Lewis Carroll just seriously made my day… (I know, right?? Try falling asleep when that's stuck in your head. I was practically laughing at myself in the middle of the night. XD)

YES. ALL OF THE YES. I've kind of realized that I'm not really good at writing poems when I'm TRYING to write poems. But sometimes they just kind of pop into my head, and then this happens. XD (OH MY WORD!!!! You remember Not Today!!! This comment is just the absolute best…. Oh my goodness….)
Okay, yes. Having a persistent poem DOES give me something to write about, but like…it's still annoying sometimes. (but also really fun so yes. i can't complain. XD) OH MY GOODNESS, SARAH, I CANNOT TAKE YOUR KINDNESS. <3333 *flings cookies at your face*

Wait. Narnia is flat? I seriously need to read those books… AND YES. LET'S GO TO NARNIA. *whips out my portable wardrobe*

  2. Aww, it’s such a cute poem!! XD

Also, I don’t think the earth can be flat. Otherwise, everyone who travels in an airplane and sees the curve of the earth (like my mom and my brothers and sister) must be lying. And, what happens during an lunar eclipse? The earth gets directly between the sun and moon, causing the moon to be blocked by the sun’s light. how is this possible with a flat earth?
And one more thing (sorry loll): how is it that all over the world, there are different times for the sun to rise? In China, the sun is setting just as the sun is rising on the eastern coast of America. If it was a flat earth, the sun would rise on everybody at the same time, and set on everybody at the same time.

My sister randomly got up in the middle of the night to write a poem down. I mean, it turned out to be a good poem, but at the moment I was like, couldn’t you just save that for tomorrow?! XD XD
I hope you get better!! I hate being sick :( :(

    • MEEP! Thank you, Bunny!!! <333

And all of this has a very simple answer, my dear bunny. #MAGIC. Clearly the "fact" that the earth is flat is a government conspiracy to hide the fact that we are all currently enveloped in a giant glass dome which the government has placed around us. The sun's rise and fall is all a simulation cast onto the dome's glass interface. And also your siblings and parents are lying to you about the curve of the earth. Obviously. XD

OOOH, YES. Thankfully I was able to hold onto this one until I woke up in the morning (this is very rare and I'm kind of worried that I risked that), but getting up in the middle of the night and writing things down is sometimes NECESSARY. So even though it is annoying, know that you can do the exact same thing to your sister and she can't get mad. XD

  3. I rather enjoyed the poem! It was short and cute and I loved it. 🤣 I’m also just getting over the edge of a cold and I can agree that it is not that enjoyable.

Also, this really must be said, after visiting your blog I am REALLY craving some cookies… 🍪😂
