The Get To Know Me Tag 2.0!

good morning, cyberspace!

Way back in July of 2018, I posted my answers for the Get To Know Me Tag (WRITER’S EDITION). Now, nine months later, I’ve been tagged yet again by the lovely Phoebe from over at So It Is (Re)Written to do this tag a second time! And since so much time has passed between now and then, I thought it’d be really fun to see how much my answers have changed–or . . . not changed?–since the last time I did this tag.

Which is why, today, I’m going to be doing the Get To Know Me Tag 2.0!

. . .in which the questions are literally the same as the last time. Aha. I also think I’m stealing the whole 2.0 thing from Phoebe, but SHHHHHH it’s fine. She won’t mind.

please don’t mind.

Anyway, without any further ado, let’s dive into the tag!

But first, some rules. . .

^^ I still think this graphic is one of the most gorgeous graphics of ever.

THE GET TO KNOW ME TAG 2.0

— THE RULES —

  • link back to the blogger who created this tag . . . that would be Savannah! 10/10 recommend checking her blog out. she just recently wrote a post about all of the places she’s going to be submitting her work to this month, and I may or may not have jotted some of the places down . . . *cough*
  • thank the bloggerly bean who tagged you . . . PHOEBE! ASDFGHJKL!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAGGING ME! *tackle hugs* You are the best! <333
  • share the tag graphic . . . *points above*
  • tag eleven other bloggers . . . I’m not sobbing, you’re sobbing.

All right! Now that we have those out of the way, let us sally forth unto greatness!

— VITAL STATS AND APPEARANCE —

NAME: Mackenzie

NICKNAME: Kenzie (which is what I usually go by on the Blogosphere, though I want to be published under my full name someday). Other nicknames include MacKenzie, McKenzie, and every other variation of my name that iS nOt AcTuAlLy My NaMe!!!!!!

BIRTHDAY: Sometime in August. I’m not going to tell you what day, though. Or what year. Because #stalkers.

HAIR COLOR/LENGTH: Um . . . golden brown? My sister says it’s a brownish color, my aunt says it’s red, my mirror says it’s frizzy, and someone once asked if I was graying, so. Who even knows at this point. Although, as for length, it’s currently sitting right at my shoulders–which I only just realized is what Phoebe called the “sits-on-my-shoulders-like-an-angry-ferret length” in her post. . . Aha. But for me it’s the PERFECT length for doing cute little half-up half-down double buns and dutch braid pigtails. My hair used to be neeeeearrrrrly at my waist, but then I asked my mom to chop it off because I love shorter hair much, MUCH better. (although, I will admit that it’s getting to be a very awkward length right now [I’m beginning to understand the ferret terminology] I think I might have to ask my mom to chop it again. . .)

EYE COLOR: Hazel. Or, as I so fondly said in my last Get To Know Me post, a very devoted mixture between brown and green–like a turd.

BRACES/PIERCINGS/TATTOOS: Two pierced ears, from which I hang my TARDIS earrings that I got for Christmas last year. (I love these earrings so so much, oh my word)

RIGHTY OR LEFTY: Righty. And that SEVERELY bothers me, because I absolutely love the direction of Left.

ETHNICITY: HA. Your guess is as good as mine, my friend. I could be half Spongebob Squarepants for all I know. I do know that I am very Irish on both sides, though, so maybe I’m related to the guy on the Lucky Charms box, or something.

— FIRSTS —

FIRST NOVEL WRITTEN: I honestly have no clue, because the next question down is First Novel Completed, and isn’t that technically the same thing? If I had to guess, the first real novel that I tried writing was about some girl who found a magical rock that led her to a secret Animal Kingdom, in which all the animals within said kingdom could talk. (of course.) Before that it was mostly just stories about horses and talking horses and girls who moved to the country and–lo and behold–were finally able to get a horse, which was, of course, their lifelong dream.

FIRST NOVEL COMPLETED: The Dragon Elements. And it was . . . bad. Kind of. I’m still just a teensy bit proud of it, but that’s mostly because it was 515 pages long and the very first novel I had actually followed through to the very end. And also it was about dragons, so I mean there’s always that.

AWARD FOR WRITING: I haven’t received an award for writing yet. . . Although if anyone would like to make a gold-plated trophy with a carved cookie on the top and send it to me via USPS, I would greatly appreciate it.

FIRST PUBLICATION: I don’t think I have an answer for this, either. I mean, I did get my novella–a Hansel and Gretel retelling–published on Wattpad, and also got physical copies for me and my family, but other than that. . . *crickets* I’m hopeful for the future, though! Maybe I’ll have a better answer to give for The Get To Know Me Tag 3.0(Or, you know, 7.0, which I’m sure we can all agree is much more likely.)

CONFERENCE: Write-On-Con 2019! It was a very spur of the moment thing, because I had only just discovered it through one of the speaker’s YouTube channels like three or four days before the actual conference, but I am SO happy that I signed up! I learned so much about the publishing industry and writing in general, and I would 10/10 recommend that conference to anyone and everyone who writes kidlit. And also it’s completely online, which means you don’t even have to leave your house or your secret stash of truffles, so that’s definitely a positive.

QUERY/PITCH: At first I thought I didn’t have an answer for this, but then I remembered the day I tried to send a *cough*short story*cough* off to an anthology so that they could publish it. Much to my then surprise and now chagrin, they rejected it. Hard. But now that I think about it, A) that story wasn’t very good in the first place, and B) knowing now all that I do about querying, my submission to that anthology was ATROCIOUS. Holy cow. It was BAD, folks. I’m just going to go stuff my head into a paper bag and ne’er return.

— FAVORITES —

NOVEL (that you wrote): everlost. Hands down. No contest. I mean, it’s either that or The Dragon Elements, and EV has been through a LOT more revisions than that other one, so. I also really really love The Girl and The Goblin King, but since I haven’t exactly even finished its first draft yet. . .

GENRE: Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Sci-Fi Fantasy, whatever Jane Austen’s writing can be classified as. . . Although when it comes to writing, I’m mostly Fantasy mixed with Sci-Fi.

AUTHOR: Jane Austen, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Gail Carson Levine, Marissa Meyer, Phoebe. . .

WRITING MUSIC: Anything and everything that matches the tone, feel, or mood I’m trying to acquire with my current WIP. This means that my playlist for EV has a LOT of 80’s songs. Don’t even ask me why. It just does.

TIME TO WRITE: ALL the time!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

munchies licking GIF by SpongeBob SquarePants

Okay, okay, so my most productive writing time is between 10 am and 12 pm, but I do tend to write at all hours of the day depending on what’s happening.. If I can’t write in the morning, I write in the afternoon. And if I can’t write in the afternoon, I write in the evening/right before bed. My most preferred method is writing in the morning, though, because then I know I’ve actually been productive and don’t have to worry about whether or not I’ll be too tired to write later.

WRITING SNACK/DRINK: And here is where I am SEVERELY DISAPPOINTING because I don’t have a favorite writing snack, OR a favorite writing drink. I am very lame like that. Technically I just starve and dehydrate myself until I get my words down, and then I crawl out from the depths of my bone-filled cave to refill my withered body with sustenance.

I do like to reward myself with candy if I hit word counts, though, so maybe that counts? M&M’s are definitely a favorite, because then you can just dump them in a pile beside you as you write and force yourself to exercise extreme self-control to keep from eating them all as you ponder the difference between then and than.

MOVIE: You’ve Got Mail, Alice In Wonderland (Tim Burton version), LEGO Batman, Christopher Robin << exactly in that order. At least, it’s in that exact order until I decide to switch it up again.

happy matt smith GIF by Doctor Who

Also, the only reason Sherlock wasn’t on that list is because it is not, in fact, a movie.

WRITING MEMORY: I’m positive I said this the last time, and I’ll say it again, but my absolute favorite writing memory so far was in April of 2017 when I finished the very first draft of everlost. I ended up typing The End at 1 o’clock in the morning, and my absolutely LOVELY cabin-mates stayed up till the final dregs of the night just to cheer me on towards the finish. That entire year was absolutely amazing for me, actually. I met some of my closest writing friends in 2017. . .

CHILDHOOD BOOK: I’m not exactly sure how deep into my childhood this book actually goes, but The Princess and The Goblin was PROBABLY my absolute favorite book when I was a younger bean. It’s still an all-time favorite to this day, in fact.

— CURRENTLY —

WRITING: Gee. Way to call me out, Get To Know Me Tag. should be writing Super Secret Project #1, because technically I’ve already failed my steadfast deadline for it, but I’m currently taking a break to write this blog post because . . . I’m procrastinating. Yeah. I’ll be brutally honest with ya, Cyberspace. I AM A PROCRASTINATOR. You can judge me, but I highly doubt you can ever change me.

LISTENING TO: Durachi rooting through his seed cup with his little beak. It’s actually a really adorable sound. . . If you have a bird, you know how cute it is.

WATCHING: I’m not really watching anything at the moment. Sometimes my sister puts Fringe on at night, but that’s more sporadic than anything because of her work schedule. We did just recently watch Christopher Robin, though, and HOLY GUACAMOLE. That movie was complete and utter adorableness. I am 100% in love.

winnie the pooh GIF by Walt Disney Studios

LEARNING: . . .that deadlines are hard and I want nothing to do with them.

— FUTURE —

WANT TO BE PUBLISHED: UM. YES. Being published is like the Ultimate Dream™, after all.

INDIE OR TRADITIONAL: Definitely Traditional. I’ve considered Indie publishing multiple times (I blame my sporadic ventures down the rabbit hole of Indie Published YouTubers), but Traditional is where my heart truly belongs, and so that’s what I’m sticking with. I know any sort of publishing is difficult, though, so I’m trying to learn as much as I possibly can about the whole thing before I nudge my foot through that door. Better to know the horrors before you begin than to die of unexpected terror, amiright?

WILDEST GOAL: To be published. I know. So cray-cray. Although seeing my smol little book child sitting on a shelf in a bookstore would be . . . you know . . . kinda nice.

And that, my friends, was the Get To Know Me Tag 2.0! It’s been forever since I did this tag the first time, and I’m far too lazy to go back and see how much my answers have changed since then. But hopefully there have been some changes, because otherwise that would be . . . kind of odd.

Aha. But now that we’ve reached the end of this post, it’s time to tag some of you lovely marshmallow peeps to do this tag, as well! And since Phoebe decided to break our tradition and do this tag before me, she snatched up quite a few people I would normally tag for something like this.

how dare you, pheebs

But I’m actually kind of excited about her thievery, because this means I get to tag some different bloggers than my usual, which is clearly something I need to get better at doing, anyway. So hold on, folks! We’re gonna tag some peoples!

TAG! You’re it!

  • Jem
  • Sarah
  • Kinsey
  • loverofwriting2 (MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOU DIDN’T GET TO THIS ONE!!!! *clutches Cricket close and flees*)
  • Madeline J. Rose
  • Cait (a.k.a. paperfury. i’m not sure which name to use. . .)
  • Christine
  • Eva
  • Jenelle
  • Kellyn
  • Anika
  • Evangeline
  • AND YOU! If you read through this tag and think it looks like fun, then BY ALL MEANS, MY GOOD SIR! Steal this tag to your heart’s content. I’ll even leave some pirate eyepatches by the door for you to pick up on your way out. (oh wow, look at me making thieving tags easy for you. i’m so nice.)

Okay wow. That was a lot of tagging. I accidentally did twelve people, but I mean??? I LOVE SO MANY BLOGS/BLOGGERS. I think I might have a problem. . .

A SMOL ANNOUNCEMENT

Before I sign off for the day, I have a tiny little announcement I’d like to share. In last week’s post, I promised a super special smudge for this week . . . and that is still happening.

hopefully

However, I’m not posting it today, because that would be counter-intuitive to the Super Special Post’s future.

#sosecret #muchconfusion

SO. Keep your eyes peeled for a new smudge flying into your blog feed HOPEFULLY this Saturday! I’m super stoked about it, and hopefully you will be too. . .

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA–HACK.

TALK TO ME, PEASANTS!

Once again I would like to give yet another huge THANK YOU!!! to Phoebe for tagging me for this! Thank you so much, Pheebs!!! I shall ignore the fact that you got to this tag first and be grateful to you for tagging me.

but i’m also still bitter because YOU BROKE OUR TRADITION. HOW DARE.

But alas. Now that I’ve finished talking relentlessly about myself, it’s time to hear what you guys have to say! Do you have any favorite childhood books? What kinds of snacks do you consume whilst writing? What sorts of things are you currently reading, writing, listening to, looking at, baking, creating, growing, eating, etc.? Did you learn anything new about me in this post? (i’m gonna take a stab in the dark and guess you probably didn’t. . .) and most important of all. . .

ARE YOU EXCITED FOR SATURDAY??? because i am super super SUPER-dee-duper excited about Saturday. . .

Let us talk about ALL OF THE THINGS! down in the comments below, shall we? And as always, until next time. . .

      • OMW YES. I JUST SIMPLY COULD NOT HANDLE FEELS. I’m so glad someone else agrees with me that this movie is cry worthy. IT WAS AMAZING!!!! AOATSFWVAOPAF!!! 😍😍😍

        • I KNOWWW. Loll I always feel so relieved when I know somebody else was as emotionally affected after watching a movie as I was XD (me, after watching Christopher Robin the first time, covertly looking around the room the second time watching it to see if any of my siblings are crying XD XD and then promptly almost breaking down myself :P)

          Liked by 2 people

          • I know, right???? I’m always like, “Oh no, I’m the only person who was touched by this movie…..no one else is crying but me.” XD XD XD So I’m very relieved to find someone else who agrees on this with me too XD XD

            • I started sobbing approximately 20 seconds in and every time I thought, “oh, maybe I can stop now,” something else would happen and all the nostalgia rolled over me and I just ended up crying through practically every scene until the final credits rolled. You are not alone!

              Liked by 2 people

              • Aww!! :( <3 Actually, I wish I had cried, because I think I would have felt a lot better with the feels off my chest than to just have them all pent up. XD Instead, I was too busy closely scrutinizing my 21-year-old brother to see if he was really crying or was just having to swipe something off his cheeks and swallow a few times (I honestly think he was, but shh don't tell him I said that :P ) XD.

        • WAIT YOU HAVE A HANSEL AND GRETEL RETELLING ON WATTPAD?? *o*

Oh my gracious Christopher Robin was FANTASTIC. So precious and pure and so unlike the usual stuff Hollywood puts out…XD

Ooooh, I CAN’T WAIT to hear about this Super Secret Project!!! :D And thanks for the tag!! ^_^

          • I DOOOOOOO!! And it’s horrible. I would not recommend. XD (i was smol and innocent. DO NOT JUDGE. XD)

Oh my word, YES!!! I literally just wrote this in a response to someone! Christopher Robin is SUCH a light movie, and in this world filled with dark stuff and gut-punching action scenes, it was the perfect little simple movie filled with happiness and honey and just!!!! I loved it.

MEEEP! I cannot wait for you to hear about it, either!!!! (although I totally failed to get the post out on time but SHHHH LET’S IGNORE THIS.) And you are very welcome!!

    • MEEP! Thank you so much, Penny! <33 You are so sweet!
(YESSSSSS!!!!! Christopher Robin was SO CUTE but also kinda heartbreaking but SO SO GOOD AND I AM EMOTIONALLY WITHERED.)

ACK!!! I didn't get the post out when I wanted to!! I'm so sorry!!! But I'm officially posting it TOMORROW, and I've already got it all drafted and ready to go so!!! *thumbs up* I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO HEAR ABOUT IT MALKJFALKFJALKGJ!

  2. Ooooh! I love your answers! Also, CHRISTOPHER ROBIN!!!! Went to see it in theaters and began sobbing about 20 seconds in and couldn’t stop until the credits rolled. (My mom totally teased me about it) but I couldn’t help it! All the nostalgia and FEELS, know what I mean? And I don’t usually talk about “feels” feeling that I’m too old for such terminology, but this one definitely broke all the rules of that.

    Ahem.

It was fun to get to know you a bit more through this post! I love The Princess and the Goblin as well! I read it to my oldest daughter a few years back when she was four… and I think it’s time for a re-read now that she’s 10 and the next one is 7. Though she has the memory of a steel bear-trap because just the other day she started talking about it and remembered all the various plot-points. I was amazed!

Thanks for tagging me! I’m excited to do this. But… can I…. um… have a pirate eyepatch anyway? I mean, they go with the current theme of my WIP… well… maybe just… *fails stealth roll* *grabs one anyway and runs off cackling into the fog*

    • MEEP!! Thank you SO much, Jenelle!!! <3333 And ASDFGHJKL OH MY WORD, YES. I didn't see it in theaters (almost did! but we ended up missing it before it left theaters), but ACK. It was so adorable and cute and HEARTBREAKING and I loved it… (and oh my word, your mom sounds awesome! XD families who can tease each other are the best) YES!! I DEFINITELY understand what you mean!! "Feels" is really the only word appropriate for this movie…

OH. MY. WORD. YOU READ YOUR DAUGHTER THE PRINCESS AND THE GOBLIN << this is TOTALLY what I'm going to do if I ever actually get married (that nano dare squad thing was horrible. i'm still scarred) and have kids. Seriously, I love that book so much, and I'll probably be heartbroken if I can't instill that love into the hearts of others. XD Also I am very envious of your daughter's memory. My own mind is a marshmallow, and all I could remember about the book before my mom rediscovered it for me was the goblins, something about a cobbler and a shoe, and a bunch of fun rhyme things. XD

You are very welcome!!! I can't wait to read your answers!!! And . . . well, I was going to say go ahead and take an eye patch but APPARENTLY YOU ALREADY TOOK ONE SO. XD BUT OOH WAIT ARE YOU WRITING ABOUT PIRATES???

  3. Eek I always love hearing more about your crazily wonderful life, Kenzie. XD Also fun fact, I thought that your real name was Mackenzie, and that Kenzie was a shortened version of your real name. :P
AND THANK YOU FOR NOMINATING ME, YOU WONDERFUL BEAN!! <3 <3 I think you nominated me for the last one too, loll XD What, you don't know me enough by now?? XD But actually this is perfect timing because then I can put this up on my new blog, and it'll be great for new people to get to know me, so thank you!! XD

ALSO: I 10000% AGREE WITH CHRISTOPHER ROBIN (in fact, it inspired me to write a smol poem, which is still unfinished and probably will remain that way XD). It's just…such a good, wholesome family movie that really shows what happens when someone, especially a father, doesn't have a good work-life balance. I feel like sadly, this generation is slowly slipping away from that mindset of spending time with the family as well as on work. :( Needless to say, I "filled but (narrowly) did not spill" even when watching Christopher Robin the second time. XD Also it probably didn't help my emotions that I've read all the Winnie the Pooh stories when I was younger, so I look on those stories fondly. :P

And your current music choice: Parfait, mademoiselle, parfait. 👌👌👌👌

    • Awwww!!! Cricket, you are so sweet!!!! <333 Honestly, I don't lead a very crazy life, but HEY. IF IT COMES ACROSS AS THAT, I'LL TAKE IT. XD Oooooh, really?? That is so cool! Well, yes, Mackenzie is my full name, and if I ever get published, that's totally what I'm going under. I don't know why I stuck with Kenzie for blogging, but it's shorter and more nicknamey, so I like it. (also my family and friends call me Kenzie, so I guess it just kind of felt right? XD)

I WILL ALWAYS NOMINATE YOU, CRICKET. XD Well, unless I see another one of our cabin mates has tagged you, and then I won't because duplicates, but whatever. THIS TIME I TAGGED YOU. XD And OH MY WORD THAT IS PERFECT!!! I totally knew this is what you were going to do with this tag. Totally. It's exactly what was going through my head. *tries to hide my blatant lies*

DUDE. Winnie the Pooh is SO special to me. Like a lot. So I totally get it. (I think I got chills, maybe almost cried. It was traumatic. XD) And I totally agree with you. I want to make sure that I never lose sight of the important things in life–like family–because once you do that, it's so hard to find your way again. Unless you have a talking bear from your childhood come and show you the simpler ways of living, however. XD And YES. My family and I were talking about how it was a very Light movie. So many movies and stories nowadays are so dark, but that one was just so simple and Light and happy and UGH. It was perfection. <33

OOH, YES!!! You like 80's music, I presume? (typically I'm not a huge fan, but EV called for it, so. XD)

  4. Ooh I loved reading this. But wait wait…someone asked you if you WERE GRAYING?!?!? That’s rude. 😂But aw I so am rooting for you and your dream of publishing!! It is a crazy time but worth it. Also I kind of want to see Christopher Robin? Even though I like never have time for movies haha. I’m also writing nothing (gasp am a slacker) and thinking about chocolate chip biscuits and how much I want one…

    • Why, yes. Yes, they did. I was scarred for life, I tell you. (I HAVE LIGHT HIGHLIGHTS IN MY HAIR I CAN’T HELP IT. XD) But ASDFGHJKL OH MY GOODNESS, CAIT, THANK YOU!!! That means so so much to me!!! (especially since you’re one of my favorite authors AHAHAHAHAHAHA *begins hyperventilating*) And you should definitely try and watch it sometime!!! It’s a little odd at first, because they made the creatures look so toy-ish and lifelike, but it’s absolute ADORABLENESS and I 10/10 recommend!
Also that craving for chocolate chip biscuits/cookies is exactly the type of reaction I like people to have when they visit my blog. XD
