A Happy Birthday To ME! – Smudged Thoughts’ 5th Blogiversary!

good morning, cyberspace!

I have some VERY exciting news for you all today, my friends! Smudged Thoughts–this precious bean of a child which I have painstakingly nurtured since 2016–is having a BIRTHDAY! We’re turning 5 years old this month, folks. FIVE. YEARS. OLD. That’s half of a decade. (if I didn’t feel like a hobbled old blog witch before, I certainly do now. XD) And since this is clearly a momentous occasion, I wanted to do something EXTRA special to celebrate! None of this would ever have been possible without you guys, so this month, we’re doing something extra special to give back to this beautiful community which has accepted me as one of its own…

August is officially a month of celebration, my friends, and I’m asking you to bop along with me for this beautiful, magical, wonderful ride!

For the first few years of Smudged Thoughts’ existence, I didn’t really know how to celebrate a blogiversary. I tried, of course (assuming I remembered it was happening in the first place), but I didn’t know how to make it an event to remember. Then 2019–my third Bloggy Birthday–happened, and we celebrated with a giveaway and short story contest!! It was a wild, slightly manic time–and the notebook I made was, I’ll admit, a wee bit rusty in regards to skill level XD–but goodness, it was fun. It was the only blogiversary I can remember that I really, truly put effort and time into, and that was only for my 3rd year of blogging.

This time, at 5 years old, I really want this to be a blogiversary to remember. Which is why, in a similar vein to two years ago, we’re going to be hosting a giveaway here on Smudged Thoughts!

Notice, however, that I said we. For this giveaway, my dear peasants, is also a collab.

I am so, so, SO extremely excited to announce that my Five Year Bloggy Birthday is going to be in partnership with my dear friend AND favorite sister, Marissa from @hodgeandpodgestudio!

Marissa Keene is a dream-chasing, convention-crushing creative with a passion for making her mark on the world. Her obsessions include any variant of fiber arts, crafting, and other such wabi-sabi-ness, and she uses her many skills to weave handmade creations for her Etsy shop, Hodge & Podge Studio!

I’ll hopefully be tormenting interviewing Marissa here on Smudged Thoughts later this month in a deep dive expose about all of her creative talents, so if you’re interested in getting to know more about the maker of our giveaway prize, please keep your eyeballs peeled for this exclusive Meet The Maker coming soon!

And speaking of the prize, I just so happen to have a sneakety peakety of the VERY THING you could win!

Ready to see what it is? Ah? AHHHHHHHH?

MEEP! I am so unbelievably excited about this giveaway, you guys! I personally have one of Marissa’s notebooks on my own shelf (it’s Alice In Wonderland themed. Yes, I squealed. XD), and I can tell you from experience that these notebooks are otherworldly. The fact that she was willing to create a Smudged Thoughts themed notebook for my smol little blog is just … I’m over the moon happy, you guys. The colors are perfect. The details are perfect. I am just so so excited for one of you to win this. I promise you won’t be disappointed. <3

So now, without any further ado, HERE’S HOW TO ENTER THE GIVEAWAY! Technically this giveaway is a two-parter–you can enter both here and over on instagram–so if you want optimal prize winning potential, I highly suggest checking us out on Instagram after you’re done here! Meep!

  1. OH MY GOODNESS. OH MY GOODNESS. It’s your 5th Blogiversary??? AAAAAHHHHH THAT’S HUGE. A most happy and glorious blogiversary to, without a doubt, one of my favoritest blogs to ever exist. AND my favoritest bloggers! <333 Seriously, every single time I read a post from you I leave with a grin on my face. You truly spread such a huge beam of sunshine across this earth, and I feel utterly blessed to know you.

And EEP. You are the sweetest to do a giveaway. Also that JOURNAL. *heart-eyes* It is amaziiiing! The colors are GORGEOUS. I LOVE ALL OF THIS!!!

To answer your most important question: My favorite cookies are sugar cookies and snickerdoodles, hands down. I could eat those to the point of explosion.

Happy Blogiversary again!!! Here's to hopefully many, many more frabjous Kenzie posts! *throws confetti and glitter and cookie crumbs everywhere*

    • Oh my goodness!!! Thank you SO much, Christine!!! And AWK. I literally feel the same way about YOU. You’re legit the most sunshiniest person I’ve ever known, and I just…! I cannot wait until we meet someday (because we MUST.) Be prepared for me to never let you go, though. I shall tackle you for eternity. XD

ISN’T IT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK IN THE WHOLE WORLD???? She put the colors together to match the aesthetic of Smudged Thoughts, and I just…!!! I am SO in love with it…

Ohhh, sugar cookies are SO GOOD. I’ve never had a Snickerdoodle, but it’s one that I’ve wanted to try for a really long time because of the name. I mean…something with the word “doodle” in it can’t possibly be bad. xD

Oh my goodness!!! Thank you so so much, my dear friend!! This means the most coming from you!!

(Actually no. I am unpatriotic. They’re not terrible but I have others I prefer xD) But… what’s your favourite, Kenzie? I don’t remember knowing… 🤔

Anyway firstly: HAPPY BLOG BIRTHDAY (and, uh, non-blog birthday for soon??)
    Secondly: Hi Kenzie-sister Marissa!!
Thirdly: that notebook is so cute, wow *stabs international shipping*

All the congratulations, Kenzie, and have a wonderful month of August!!

    • JEM, NO. NOT THE ANZAC BISCUITS. WHICH ARE ACTUALLY COOKIES. LIKE WHAT. XD (Fall is coming here in the great US of A and I WILL fight you on canned pumpkin….) (also! My favorite is a combination of chocolate chip, butterscotch chip, and peanut butter chip that my mom invented! Apparently the first time she made them she was pregnant with me, so there’s a potential this was the first kind of cookie I ever experienced. XD #funfact)

MEEP! Thank you doubly for both birthdays!!! It’s weird sharing a birth-month with my blog, but I kinda like it. It keeps things easy to remember. XD

OKAY BUT ISN’T IT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL NOTEBOOK??? I’m in LOVE. She made me a notebook for my birthday and it’s just…..oh my goodness. I’m gonna have to post a picture because words don’t do it justice.

Meep!!! Thank you, Jem!!! I love you so much. <333

      • THEY ARE NOT COOKIES. also? canned pumpkin?? I know we’ve discussed this before but why does such an abomination exist. xD

…That sounds like an excellent biscuit combo though, your mum is a genius. Please tell her so.

        • CANNED. PUMPKIN. It is a thing and it has every single right to exist. XD I mean technically they’re kind of like cookies. Kinda. You know.

I will let her know! She already knows she’s a genius, but these cookies are next level…

  3. HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY! Five years is AMAZING. Like Christine said, you really do scatter sunshine across the blogosphere, and I always beam whenever your posts pop up in my inbox. :D

(“Sneakety peakety.” I might need to use that phrase now. XD)

Favorite cookies…oh, goodness, so many! I have to go with good ol’ chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin for two options. Also, there’s a cookie my mom makes called a sunbutter blossom (which is basically like a peanut butter blossom cookie but with sunflower seed butter). I could eat those every single day.

Again, a very happy blogiversary! I hope you stick around for a while longer! :D

    • Oh my word… Amelie, you have no clue how much that means to me. Seriously. This just made my whole day.

PLEASE USE IT. Currently I feel like I’m the only one that uses it (shockingly often, tbh XD), and I NEED SOME SUPPORT OVER HERE. XD

Ohhhhhhhh…. Okay but oatmeal raisin is SO. UNDERRATED. It makes me sad, especially because they’re really good?? And not gonna lie, those sunbutter blossoms sound like legit heaven. I would like 10, please. XD

Meep! Thank you so so much!! I definitely plan on sticking around for as long as I can, so no worries there! I DO have some other avenues planned for the future, but for right now, Smudged Thoughts is my home. XD <33
