Well, folks, another November has come and gone. We have written. We have cried. We have supported each other. Celebrated with each other. Cursed each other’s cereal so that our friends shall inevitably fail and have to do a dare. Another NaNoWriMo is ending, and with that ending goes the last bits of our sanity that we have been so carefully clinging on to.
NaNoWriMo is finally over, and it is now time, my friends, for us to meet our deaths.
But first, I kind of want to toot my own horn for a moment, here, because something kind of wonderful happened on the 28th, and I just have to share it with you all, apparently. . .Read More »
Yep. We’re jumping right into the meat of the post today, folks. Perhaps some of you noticed that there was no post on Saturday. Or Sunday. Perhaps you spent your entire Saturday excessively refreshing your WordPress feed whilst tears of despair dripped down your sad little nose because you couldn’t find a new post written by Yours Truly. or, you know, perhaps you couldn’t care less that there was no post on Saturday because this month’s lineup of blog posts have been nothing short of abysmal and an incoherent mess. aha. oops?
As always, the lateness of this post is, of course, due to multiple reasons. One of which is that I spent the whole of Black Friday writing my book so furiously that I’m pretty sure I burned a hole in my laptop to make up for my Thanksgiving Slip-and-Slide. One of which is that I promised you all a pep talk, and the mere act of promising that has caused me to literally forget how to pep talk.
And the most important reason of all is, most obviously. . .I caught a cold.
And all of these things stock-piled together adds up to one very late, extremely incoherent blog post. Because when one’s throat feels like a giant lump set on fire by the volcanoes of Pompeii, one’s writing style is bound to become most gloriously cramped.
However, last week I promised you all a pep talk, and so a pep talk you shall have.Read More »

The NaNoWriMo Dare Squad, Day 12 — PROMPT OF THE DAY Pick a character — your favorite character, a character from the novel that you’re NOT writing for this NaNo, your least favorite character who you would love to end up dead — and write a 200 word journal entry about the day they met […]
I told myself I wasn’t going to do weekly update posts for NaNoWriMo this year. I told myself that I was going to focus solely on my book, that I had a whole mess of other things going on in November, and blogging about the whole writing process was just too much for my smol little self to handle.
I promised myself I wasn’t going to do weekly updates for NaNoWriMo this year.

Welcome to my weekly NaNoWriMo update, peasants.Read More »

. . . DAILY PROMPT QUESTIONS FROM BEFORE THE REVAMP . . .
Wednesday, Nov. 1st — QUESTION OF THE DAY
Today is a day of beginnings, so share your NaNoWriMo project’s opening line down in the chat below!(if you’re uncomfortable doing this, that is totally okay. i know some people don’t like sharing their work online, so if that’s you, feel free to discuss some of your absolute FAVORITE opening lines that you’ve read!)
Monday, Nov. 5th (wow. these really are daily. ahahahahahaha. #fail)— QUESTION OF THE DAY
Now that it’s Day Five of NaNoWriMo, we’ve hopefully finally begun to push on through the rough beginnings of our glorious stories and are staring to blaze new trails towards the more exciting, potentially plot-twisty centers of our story truffles*. So now that our stories are finally beginning to grow wings and take flight — or are currently crashing to the ground in distance streams of fire as it burns a hole the size of the Grand Canyon into your outline (like mine. ahem.) — I feel like now would be a great time to talk about all of the scenes we are most excited about writing this month! What sorts of fun things are you most excited to get to in your NaNoWriMo story? What are the characters you’re excited to meet? The settings you just can’t wait to explore? What are the plot twists that keep your mind whirring at night? (and if you’re not a chronological writer like me, what sorts of fun things/characters/scenes have you probably already written? [and also if you don’t want to share any spoilers, that is totally okay! just be super elusive. like a squirrel.])
*can you tell that the NaNo is beginning to get to me? because the NaNo is beginning to get to me.
P.S. ATTENTION TO ANYONE WHO SENT ME A FORM FOR THE DARE SQUAD — if you sent me your information in October, and it is NOT on the board, then that means it probably got lost somewhere in my very messy inbox and I am SO SO SO SO sorry. If you could please contact me through the Suggestion Desk and send in your information once again, I will get your name up on the board immediately. I’ve been having some issues with my inbox apparently, and I would feel absolutely awful if you sent in your information and I missed it. So yes. Just contact me and we’ll get it sorted out ASAP. *gives you cookies in apology*
P.P.S. I was going to delete those daily prompt things up there, but like. . .that would make the conversations down in the comments kind of bizarre for anyone looking back on this post. So I’m just gonna keep them there and let this post remain a trainwreck for all the rest of time. ahahahahahahahaha. #helpme
Today is a very exciting day for me, you guys! NaNoWriMo — the single-most glorious writing event of the entire year — is finally returning! In just 8 short days (or less or more, depending on where you live in this great, big, beautiful world), writers from all over the planet are going to whip out their pens, their pencils, their notebooks, their laptops, their clay tablets, their typewriters and write 50,000 words in a single month.
Or, you know. . .as many words as you’d like to write, I suppose. There is no judgement here, folks.
Some of us will be rebels. Some of us will be traditionalists. Some of us will go above and beyond and pump out a whopping 100k in less than thirty days. (I will not be among these few, of course.) Some of us will fail. Some of us will win.
However, no matter what this month looks like for you — whether you’re writing 50k or 30 — I want this NaNoWriMo to be one that none of us will ever forget. And how do I plan to do this, you ask?
Easy. We’re going to be playing a game.
And if you happened to be among those who read my last blog post, you will know exactly which game I’m talking about. . .
That’s right, folks! Today we’re going to be talking about ALL OF THE THINGS pertaining to the NaNoWriMo Dare Squad!Read More »
