24 Posts and Nothing To Write

good afternoon, cyberspace!

Today I realized I have 24 posts in my WordPress folder. TWENTY. FOUR. That is a TON of posts, you guys. That’s 24 things that I’ve started writing, and then just . . . stopped. For no apparent reason other than I got distracted from/bored with/forgot about the topic.

And if that doesn’t describe me in a nutshell, I really don’t know what does.

So today, I thought I’d take a moment to clean out my drafts folder. (you know. since it’s getting pretty drafty in there. aha. hahahahahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. okay, i’m done. no more draft jokes) I’m tired of looking at 24 posts and having nothing to write, and I’m ready to fill this thing up with some topics that actually interest today’s me.

Of course, I won’t be going through ALL of the 24 draft topics. Some of them still look relatively interesting, and I want to hang on to a few of them for just a little bit longer. (because I am a sentimental squirrel, apparently.) But I am tossing a few posts into the trash today, so let’s talk about those, shall we?Read More »

Behind The Blogger Book Tag (oh look! it me!)

good afternoon, cyberspace!

In honor of my current leapfrog of original posts VS. tags, I decided that today would be yet another good day to do a taggish kind of post. I also realize that I’ve been doing a lot of tags lately, but it’s becoming rather apparent that first drafting a book–A.K.A. literally pulling a nonexistent story straight up out of my brain meats and smearing it across a page–requires quite a TON of inspiration and brain power. So when it finally comes time to draft a blog post, I just kind of . . . flail.

But don’t worry, guys. I’m working on some super fun blog posts as we speak!

and also I’m running out of tags to do. *weeps silently*

Anywho, the magical bean, Kinsey (<< LOOK, KINSEY! OUR NAMES ALMOST MATCH! [have I mentioned this before? I feel like I’ve mentioned this before…]) from over at Over The Withers recently tagged me for the Behind The Blogger Book tag, and since I’m far too exhausted from working on SK to even think about working on any of the multiple blog posts I’ve got cooking up in my drafts folder, I thought we’d take a stab at it!

SO! Let’s do another tag, folks!Read More »

good morning, cyberspace!

Guys. FriendsI think there are some things we need to talk about.

Say, for instance, this blog. And also how terrible I’ve been at running it lately.

dog smile GIF

I know, I know, you’ve probably seen this coming for a while now. What with my posts becoming fewer and farther between, and the content being somewhat. . .undesirable, I think it’s safe to assume that we all knew this had to happen eventually.

We all knew it had to come to an end.

So after much debate — and after countless tears, I can assure you — I have been forced to make one of the hardest decisions of my life.Read More »

Since I’ve Been Gone. . .

good morning, cyberspace!

and welcome to July! In case some of you missed my last post (in which i detail everything about my recent hiatus) I have officially returned to the blogosphere.

. . .and it feels so, so good.

I’ve missed you guys. I truly have. Although my Hiatus was definitely not refreshing and creatively filling for my poor raisin of a brain, I have missed this constant struggle of coming up with a new post idea every week. (lol, it’s monday, again, guys. SURPRISE!) Of course, I was supposed to take last month’s hiatus as an opportunity to backlog some new posts for July-August, but apparently I am a pathological liar and basically did nothing productive for this blog at all during June.

Which I am honestly not all that surprised about.

And so, it stands to reason that I also lied about something else. Let’s roll the quotes, shall we?Read More »

12 Things I Learned In 100 Blog Posts

good morning, cyberspace!

Today marks a very important moment in Smudged Thoughts History, my friends. On this very day, by the time I hit that massive PUBLISH button glaring at me angrily, Smudged Thoughts will have officially hit 100 posts.

And I am screaming.

I can’t even believe this blog has stuck around this long, to be honest. For those of you who know me, you’re already well aware of the fact that I am a flighty little octopus. I like to do ALL OF THE THINGS! which means that I basically end up doing NONE OF THE THINGS! as I will have dropped whatever it was that I was squealing mercilessly about three days ago by the time I actually decide to follow through with it. So the fact that Smudged Thoughts didn’t just miraculously drop off the face of the planet three months into publication is a massive electrical shock to my instability.

This blog shouldn’t even be here, guys. It should have been swallowed up by the giant maw of Cyberspace and lost to the swirling vortex of projects gone wrong a loooong time ago.

And yet. . .here we are. I’m still blogging. I’m still posting. I’m currently working on updating my webpage so that it feels a tad bit more cartoony and adorable and Kenzie-esque. So — horror of all horrors — it looks as though I’m sticking around for a while.

Which is good. Because I don’t think bombing out right after hitting the 100 post milestone would help out my unstable track record very much.

But anyway. Seeing as though this is my 100th blog post, I have humbly decided that obviously I am a master at this whole blogging thing, and therefore have ALL OF THE ANSWERS when it comes to the art and craft that is owning a blog. (obviously. it’s not like i’m still a newb at this at all. *nervous eye-twitching*)

100 posts* teaches you things, my friends. Sometimes it’s good things. Sometimes it’s not-so good things. Sometimes it’s spam comments. And since I am nothing if not a lovely, calm, completely helpful bean, I think it’s time that I impart all of my blogging wisdom upon your smol soul.

(because i am obviously a professional when it comes to blogging and am definitely not a smol little newb in any way, shape, or form lol)

*let us completely ignore the glaring fact that I’ve only written 99 posts hahahahahahaha everything is under control hereRead More »

Let’s Talk About Life, Yeah?

good morning, Cyberspace,

and welcome back to yet another episode of Kenzie Waits Until Monday To Write Her Weekly Blog Post! WOOT WOOT!

You’d think that after nearly two years of blogging I’d figure out that there are actually seven days of a typical week, and therefore I could potentially utilize some of those days for blogging. But no. Nope, I prefer waiting until the very last minute, because apparently I’m still holding out hope that Armageddon is nigh and the world will spontaneously implode before Tuesday morning.

So here I am again, trying to figure out what to write for tomorrow’s post, and all I can think about is the fact that I should really be working on my novel. Because I love my novel. And I want to be a full-time novelist, not a full-time blogger, (although admittedly that would be kinda fun? if only I didn’t have a thousand and one story ideas bubbling in my brain…) which means that, in order to achieve that ultimate goal, I actually need to work on my novel.

*brain implodes*

I know, right? WHO WOULDA THUNK.

But alas, it is true. And so in order to chunk out some time for me to spend in the world of everlost today (yesterday? I’m writing this on Monday, so….?), I’m going to be doing a simple post this week. A happy little post. A post about life.

Or rather, a post about MY life. Because my life is totally cool and hip and not at all boring.

#lies

So even though I loathe writing update posts (pretty sure we’ve been over this about ten times already…) there are some Things that have happened/will happen that I kind of want to talk to you guys about. So.

Here we go again.Read More »

Reacting To Search Histories!: A (totally) Comprehensive Guide to Cyberspace’s Most Pressing Questions

good morning, cyberspace!

Today, I am a thief.

Quite literally, in fact. Today I have decided that instead of flexing my brain meats to think of something nice and original to post, I’m going to steal a post to post, instead.

#soclever

Because I can do that. Obviously. (PLEASE DON’T SUE ME I’M SO SORRY.)

Basically, quite a while back I was introduced to the gloriousness that was the marvelous Cait’s monthly wrap-up posts. And held within those beautiful pages was one of the most hilarious things I think I’ve ever witnessed — reactions to blog search histories.

Now, if you’re not exactly familiar with the concept, here’s the basic rundown.

Step One – people search for weird, slightly random things on the Great and Terrible Cyberspace

Step Two – those weird and slightly random searches lead them to your happy smol blog

Step Three – those weird and slightly random searches are catalogued within the WordPress site, where they are then susceptible to your incessant and divine mocking for all eternity

And because I am a terrible person/running out of time to finish the post I was going to post this Tuesday a thief, I have decided to steal this beautiful concept for my own blog.

(but also i have seen other people do this a couple times SO ASDFGHJKL PLEASE PLEASE DON’T HURT ME I’M SMOL)

So without any further ado, let’s dive right into the smudge!

Ten Types Of Blog(ger)s That Are Probably Waddling Around In Your Blog Feed Right This Instant

good morning, Cyberspace!

Today, we are going to be talking about bloggers. And not just any old bloggers — alllll of the bloggers.

Or at least all of the bloggers that I can think of straight off the bat. Because that is a totally thorough and exhaustive interpretation of every single blogger of ever, so if you’re a blogger and do not see yourself anywhere on this list, then technically you don’t even exist and should probably consult your imaginary friends for help.

There are literally a TON more bloggers out there in the universe than what’s on this list, but since I am basically just a smol bean sprout with literally no drive to do anything, I’m just going to take a dramatic stab in the dark with my rusty pitchfork and list off a few of them. Particularly the blogs that you are most likely following right this instant. Because I am a psychic.

And also a wizard.

And as a bonus, I’m willing to bet that YOU happen to fall underneath one (or more…?) of these categories yourself! So if you’re looking for some further enlightenment of who you truly are, then keep reading, my friends. Deeper understanding is only a few clicks away.

(disclaimer: this list is not sarcastic in any way, shape, or form, and should be taken at the highest level of seriousness you — a human — are possibly capable of)Read More »
